The Evolution of the iPhone

Who would’ve thought that almost ten years ago the first generation of iPhone was introduced into the ever growing society of popular culture.  A touch screen phone with an attractive look, feel and in built keyboard spread in conversation so fast it resulted in 18.65 million iPhones sold worldwide by 2011 –  only four years.

Since then we have seen the iPhone craze grow even more as in 2008 Apple released the iPhone 3G followed by the 3Gs, iPhone 4, 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Last week we were all sat at the edge of our seats when the most recent iPhone 7 was announced, adding additional game changing features to the iPhone revelation including wireless headphones, extra camera detail and waterproof exterior.

Over the past nine years we have noticed a distinctive change in the appearance of the iPhone for example, the shape and density of the iPhone has changed as the new generation of iPhone are visibly thinner than the chunky iPhone 3G. Furthermore the size of the iPhone has grown massively since the first release in 2007: The iPhone 4 has a screen size of 3.5” where as the iPhone 6 Plus has a screen size of 5.5”.  Additionally, the personalisation of the iPhone has evolved as seen in the various colours available in most models of the iPhone and the fingertip scan that can be used to unlock your iPhone.  Most recently I have noticed that when my alarm wakes me in the morning, my iPhone wishes me a good morning addressing my name directly – which is always a nice feature!

The Apple iPhones does have various pro’s and con’s, one of these con’s being how fragile the phone is. As an iPhone user I would 100% recommend applying a screen protector to your iPhone as the screen can be easily smashed and to get your screen replaced professionally it can be an expensive process. Although the iPhone is an attractive piece of technology, as heart breaking as it is I would also recommend purchasing a phone case for a similar reason – the iPhone is fragile and it is better to be safe than sorry. A further con is the battery life of my iPhone 5c as it is shocking and constantly needs plugging in. I have read various posts claiming that the new iPhone 7 has an improved battery life but until I see it I’m afraid the Nokia brick will forever be the battery saver phone of a life time.

In terms of pros the iPhone is capable of near enough anything and can suit almost any lifestyle. For example, you can now store your passport and boarding tickets on your iPhone. Additionally, there is literally an app for any possible thing on the app store that can be easily downloaded on to your iPhone and is easily accessible.

Apple is huge and I feel the release of the iPhone 7 will continue their growth even more. I look forward to seeing what they have planned next... A phone that no longer relies on any charge at all? Or perhaps a phone that is in built into your skin? Wouldn’t surprise me.
